PRO-TEK Sponsoring AMIA 2015, November 18-21 in Portland

PRO-TEK is proud to be a sponsor of AMIA 2015, the 25th annual conference of the Association of Moving Image Archivists. The conference takes place November 18-21, 2015 in Portland, Oregon at the Hilton Portland & Executive Tower hotel, located in the heart of downtown Portland.

PRO-TEK Vice President Tom Regal and Still Archives Manager Randy Gitsch are involved in two event sessions.

SCREENING: THIS IS CINERAMA Remastered
Saturday, November 21, 1:00pm – 4:15pm
Whitsell Auditorium
Speakers: Randy Gitsch and David Strohmaier,  on behalf of Cinerama Inc.

Cinerama was an immersive cinematic process different in format and presentation from any other type of filmed entertainment. Captured in a triptych of 35mm images, with the image on each panel taller, clearer, and with 7 tracks of discrete sound, the picture was then projected on a gigantic, deeply curved screen, in a theater with surround-sound speaker placement. The result was larger than life, three-dimensional and awe-inspiring. “This is Cinerama” is all at once a demonstration film, a travelogue, an opera, an Aquacade, and thrilling spectacle. Presented in Smilebox (TM) Curved Screen Simulation. Prior to the screening, the film’s digital restoration team of David Strohmaier and Randy Gitsch will present a before-and-after demonstration and discuss their work.

Digital Asset Symposium (DAS)
Thursday, November 19, 9:30am to 5:30pm
Hosted by Tom Regal

DAS is a unique international event that runs concurrent with the conference, bringing together a cross-section of domain experts in an engaging, educational format to discuss the most current challenges and breakthroughs in managing digital assets.

As AMIA’s 25th show, this year’s conference promises to be a special event.
